Jennie Lurie (She/Her/Hers)
LMHC, C-DBT, RYT 200 hr
Jennie Lurie is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with experience working in day treatment programs, outpatient treatment at community clinics, and elementary and middle school settings. She works with clients from diverse populations and age groups utilizing an integrated multimodal approach (Psychodynamic, Humanistic, DBT oriented and somatic). Jennie developed an interest in and exploration of the connection between our mind and bodies from her personal experience having chronic illnesses, personal yoga practice, graduate school, and work experience in the field. Having been diagnosed with migraines as a kid then later epilepsy as a teenager, Jennie empathizes with the impact chronic illness plays on both the body and mind. Many with chronic illness must learn how to advocate (and possibly push back against providers) regarding understanding and treating it. She has observed that often our bodies express what our minds are unable to process then vocalize and vice versa. She has found that yoga, particularly within trauma work, provides a powerful tool in which we’re able to learn how to regain control, connection, comfort, and release.
Jennie completed Nicole Clark’s Power of Touch Mentorship course (Spring 2016) where she gained insight, knowledge, and intention upon being with and assisting students. She has been practicing yoga since 2005 and completed her 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training with 4 Corners Yoga and Wellness (June 2017.). This training was based on a trauma informed and social justice framework. She completed a Yoga Therapy Training for Emotional Health and Healing with Kate Graham (Fall 2020) that focused on the intersection of psychotherapy and yoga. She has experience teaching trauma-informed classes within the mental health community and traditional yoga studios. She became a Certified DBT therapist Spring 2023. She completed her Reiki Master certification Summer 2023 with Laura West (Divine Lotus Healing).
Jennie’s hope is to create an open space where clients and students feel welcome and question impressions of what psychotherapy and yoga should or shouldn’t look like. She strives to encourage clients and students to listen to what their needs/wants are, bring awareness to their breath, and find space for rest and healing as needed.
Jennie received her Bachelor of Arts from Agnes Scott College in 2007, double majoring in Classical Civilization/English Literature and Creative Writing. She graduated from Lesley University with her Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling: Holistic Studies in 2018.
